Tip Latemar Labyrinth Labyrinth - fairy tale landscape of rock and stone Latemar Labyrinth

The Latemar Labyrinth

… bears its name for a reason: a long time ago, a huge rock fall occurred on the Latemar. The fallen scree and the house-high boulders left behind a labyrinth and an enchanted fairytale landscape of rock and stone. Following the red and white markings, the hike takes you about 9 km into the middle of the natural spectacle – under natural rock tunnels, over boulders and up steps carved into the rock. The Catinaccio panorama is always in view!

P.S. Did you know that the Latemar labyrinth is also featured in Agatha Christie’s crime novel “The Big Four”?

Route

Starting from our Hotel Sonnalp you hike up through the Herrenwald to the Mitterleger, where the tour begins with the labyrinth trail No. 20. The way back is via the Lago di Carezza and along trail no. 8 back to Obereggen.

Character

The prerequisites for this easy tour – which can also be done with older children – are sure-footedness and a good pair of shoes. You do not have to climb, but from time to time you have to support yourself with your hands and shimmy upwards.

The Corno Bianco

… is one of the most beautiful panoramic mountains between the Val d’Ega and the South Tyrolean Unterland.
The ascent to the 2,317 m high mountain peak is quite easy to make and provides a first-class summit experience. A wide panorama of Termeno, Caldaro, Appiano, Trodena, Redagno and the Bletterbach Gorge presents itself. The Corno Bianco is also perfect for many a summer sunrise tour.

Route

The easy mountain tour starts from the ample car park on the Passo di Oclini, which you can reach from Hotel Sonnalp within 20 minutes by car. The ascent to the Corno Bianco takes you across flower and herb meadows and mountain pine forests, always following the marked path. The hike is particularly exciting when accompanied by our herbal specialist Elisabeth. On a herbal hike, you will learn what some inconspicuous looking plants can offer and all sorts of interesting things about the alpine vegetation and its uses for the kitchen, nature and medicine cabinet.

Character

The Corno Bianco is an easily accessible summit that can be climbed even without alpine experience. Sure-footedness and good shoes are still a prerequisite.

Mountain tour - Hirzelweg Panorama round Hirzelweg Hirzelweg

The Hirzelweg panoramic circuit

Want to reach for the sky? Then you are in the best hands with our hiking guide.
The Hirzelweg is a special highlight in his repertoire of mountain tours – a panoramic circuit that takes you into the fabulous realm of the Rosengarten. The tour is also known as the “Genießerrunde” or “Pleasure path” and is therefore a perfect match for our hotel Sonnalp. A whole host of vantage points invite you to linger and take your souvenir photos – including the Christomannos monument, a bronze eagle around 2.70 m tall.

Route

The 5 km long Hirzelweg can be reached in several ways. The trail number 549, which starts at the Frommer Alm and leads to the Kölner Hütte and the Hirzelweg, is more leisurely. Active sports enthusiasts who prefer something a bit more challenging are best advised to take via ferrata no. 552/551 up to the Vajolon Pass at 2,560 m – right into the rocky realm. The descent is via the Rotwand Hütte and the Hirzelweg back to the starting point.

Character

The Hirzelweg is suitable for all ages and skill levels. The ascent over the Vajolon Pass is moderately difficult, but should only be attempted by experienced hikers.
