The hike to the Pisa hut on the top of the Latemar is always an unforgettable experience: even the colourful mountain flowers along the serpentine path provide a foretaste of the wonderful nature experience that lies ahead. The ascent is somewhat strenuous, but worthwhile and absolutely doable.
360-degree views of the breathtakingly beautiful mountain giants, which includes the Mendel, the Corno Nero or even Re Ortles, slows down the ascent through the Forcella dei Camosci. Carry on without taking a picture? Not a chance! We have never even managed it ourselves, although we have been up here many times. The cliffs that we walk past are too impressive. The rock resembling the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the wonderful view of which can be enjoyed from the summit, is also hard to forget.
After the climb, the Pisa Hut awaits us at the summit. Those get to the top are allowed to reward themselves – with a cool beer, a sweet apple strudel or a hearty goulash soup.
The descent towards Passo Feudo leads past grazing cows at the foot of the mountain, who also enjoy the fresh grass and the fresh mountain air. The last part of the route, the so-called “Latemarium”, is particularly interesting for children, but also for those who are young at heart, thanks to its sculptures and interactive themed paths.
So, one thing is certain: whether alone, with friends or with the children – the hike is definitely a wonderful natural spectacle that you should not miss!
